Careers Evening: On Thursday 16th of November, we went to the St.Gerard’s Junior School Hall to attend the Careers Evening. I visited the I.T. Consultant, John Fallon, a Trinity College Scientist student, Cillian Murray and finally a computer science student attending Maynooth University in Co. Kildare. The evening broadened my knowledge on the range of courses to do in college and what careers to do.

Martial Arts was a two-day programme held in Gerard's where we were given an insight to self defence and where and when to use it. The programme was led by a local from Bray who is a professional in tai-kwan-do and martial arts in general. He teaches in other schools about self defense all over Ireland.
On the first day our year group were brought into the halla nua for a presentation. We were told about how being aware in a situation is essential to avoiding fights and defusing aggression in dire situations. He taught us about keeping relaxed but always aware and never using unnescessary violence. Our year group then went down to the sports hall to engage in physical activity. We were taught how to properly attack and efend without harming yourself. He also taught us how to get out of a situation where you're being held. Over the two day course I learnt more about how defence, reacting properly in a drastic situation and using necessary force can prevent yourself from being injured or even possibly dying. It was the best activity I did in the 1st term of 4th year. |
